Nancy’s Family Quilt

Finally a senior!

Well it has finally come I am a senior! I cant believe that after this year I will be a legal adult and possibly going to college. I am so excited and nervous all at the same time because I am not exactly sure what I am going to do after college.

Snow!

We’ve had a wonderful snow! It was gently snowing when we got up on Thursday morning and there was already a nice covering on the ground. It ended up snowing all day and evening. Sometimes it was big fluffy flakes and at other times it was smaller, faster flakes. It was right at 32-34 degrees all day so the roads were just wet until the temperature dropped during the night. I’ve uploaded pictures into a snow album. Log in to the gallery, click on our album. When the different albums come up, I think this one is actually on a second page. Be sure to click on the little pictures so you can look at them larger and also read some captions I wrote for some of them. If a picture doesn’t come up, click on the refresh button and it should load. Enjoy!

Well I haven’t posted a post in a while so I decided to update yall on what has been going on here in Mildred. We are finally starting to unpack the boxes that have been in our living room. I never relized we had so many books!!  Hannah, Danny, and Parker are growing up so fast. They are almost all taller than me, its scary that danny is 11 and as tall as I am.  School is going good being a junior has its ups and downs. At first I didn’t like being the new person at school but now it isnt really that bad. I know alot of people at school and have alot of friends. I am working on  getting my permit so I can drive. We just have to call the DPS office and get some more paperwork I can’t believe I am almost 17 and don’t have my license.  Well friday we had a prom bake sell at the high school it was fun. We are tring to get more money for our junior-senior prom. I am on the prom commitee its really fun and easy to get into things here in mildred. Yuletide Jam

Yuletide Jam

3 - 12 oz. bags fresh cranberries

4 - 16 oz. boxes/containers frozen strawberries with syrup - thawed

8 Cups sugar

Grind cranberries and strawberries w/syrup in food processor ( about a half at a time)

Put in large pot and bring to a boil

Add sugar and boil until thickened ( at least 30 min) Put a dab on a small plate to see if it is jelly like.  Cook until it has reached the consistency you like.

The cranberries have a natural thickening agent.

Pour jam into sterilized jelly jars while it is very hot to 1/4 inch from top, wipe off jar lip.

Cap with boiled lid and ring.

As they cool, the lids should seal.

Makes approximately 15 - 6 oz. jars

Mmm-mmm good!

I just tried Yuletide jam for the first time and it was so-o-o-o good!  Thank you, Rita!

Thanksgiving 2009

dsc_0050b.jpg

We hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. We hosted The McKees, The Herricks, The Orbisons, Aunt Callie Mickey, and Cousin Carisse Berryhill. Lots of good visiting, eating, and football watching (All the teams won that we were cheering for - Dallas Cowboys and University of Texas Longhorns!). We thoroughly enjoyed the day!

Charlotte Ruth it is!

Mark and Hattie shared with us last night that the baby they are expecting in April is a girl! They have named her Charlotte Ruth. See Hattie’s blog at http://www.hattiefowler.blogspot.com/ for additional information and a couple of pictures!

Cheers,

Tom

Wilma’s Birthday - scrapbook page

I am catching up on my digital scrapbook and I just did two pages about Wilma’s party.  I thought you might enjoy seeing them.  Click on the thumbnail to see it enlarged.  I use Creative Memories Storybook Creator Plus and then have it printed in a book at the end of the year.  It was so wonderful to see all of you.  Brought back memories of those Christmas reunions.  And I am glad you all got to meet Gavin and see Greg again.  Keep praying for him.

Trapped!

Mouse trap

We’ve been seeing signs of “nesting” among the rocks around the pool pumps and equipment for a while now. I finally decided to see if I could trap the varmit once it began to harvest flower stems and leaves to cover its hole. I put out two small traps and one large rat trap baited with peanut butter. After the first night, it appeared the peanut butter had been licked some on the large trap, but all traps were still waiting to be sprung. This morning when I went out following the second night, I found one of the smaller traps sprung and laying upside down on the rocks - but no sign of a mouse. However, I found the large trap with one dead adult mouse in its grip! We’ll keep baiting for a while to see if there are any other tribe members around…

(This mouse was chunky - no doubt filling its little belly every night in the birdseed feeding troughs our neighbors have out on the ground in their front and back yards!)

Friday, 10/16 update: Checked the traps again this morning and found the two small ones “sprung” once more, but no mouse. The big trap, however, caught another. I guess I’ll run the traps a little longer to see if there are more than the pair caught thus far…

Great News!

Hey Everyone!

Just a quick note to say that I have been offered (and accepted!) a position with Memphis City Schools!! Starting next week, I’ll be part of the faculty at Chickasaw Middle School.  I’ll be teaching Math in 7th and 8th grade.

Whew!
